Imane Khelif Files Complaint for Cyberbullying
Algerian Olympic boxing champion Imane Khelif has filed a complaint in Paris for cyberbullying, her lawyer announced. This comes after she faced transphobic comments and scrutiny over her high testosterone levels.
“Boxer Imane Khelif, who just won the gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, decided to fight a new battle: that of justice, dignity and honor,” Khelif’s lawyer wrote.
The complaint, filed with the Paris prosecutor’s office’s anti-hate online department, accuses the perpetrators of a “misogynistic, racist and sexist campaign.”
“The unjust harassment suffered by the boxing champion will remain as the biggest stain on these Olympic Games,” Khelif’s defense noted.
After winning the gold medal, Khelif declared, “I am a strong woman with special powers.” She also addressed her critics, saying, “I am fully eligible to participate, I am a woman like any other. I was born a woman, I have lived as a woman and I have competed as a woman.”
