SEC Commissioner Appointed as Acting Chairman
The Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), the capital market regulatory body in Bangladesh, has a new acting chairman. The current commissioner Mohammad Mohsin Chowdhury has been appointed to the position.
The order, signed by Farida Yasmin, Deputy Secretary of the Financial Institutions Department of the Ministry of Finance, was issued on Sunday (August 11) by order of the President.
The order states that Chowdhury will perform his regular duties as Acting Chairman of BSEC until a permanent chairman is appointed. This temporary arrangement is effective immediately.
The resignation of the previous chairman, Professor Shibli Rubaiyat-ul-Islam, on August 10 paved the way for this change. Chowdhury’s appointment was announced shortly after the governor of Bangladesh, Abdur Rauf Talukder, also resigned on Friday (August 9).
Mohammad Mohsin Chowdhury was appointed as a commissioner of the BSEC in May 2024. He previously served as the Director General of the PRL Employee Welfare Board.
