A Chinese-Australian man dressed as North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was ejected from the stands of the 2024 Paris Olympics and detained by French police, reports say.
On the 10th (local time), Howard Lee, who uses the pseudonym ‘Howard X’, posted a video on his X (formerly Twitter) account in which he dressed up as Kim Jong-un and wrote, “I filmed the video and was detained by the police. However, we did not break any laws.”
It was reported that another man cosplaying as Trump was also sent off next to Lee during the soccer final between Spain and France.
Lee later claimed he was dragged away by six security guards and prevented from watching the rest of the match. The reason for their ejection is understood to be their political expressions. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) prohibits political, religious, and racial propaganda in Olympic stadiums and facilities.
After being released by the police, Lee attended the Olympic closing ceremony dressed as Kim Jong-un and holding a Winnie the Pooh doll.
Lee’s behavior has sparked attention in the past. He has previously appeared in Kim Jong-un costumes at international events such as the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics and the Singapore summit.
