Two Bangladeshi films ‘A Letter of Postmaster’ and ‘Joy Bangla’ won awards in the competition section of the Haryana International Film Festival in India. The two short films were produced by Supin Burman and Shayla Rahman Tithi respectively.
Producer Supin Burman said that ‘A Letter of Postmaster’ Best International Short Film Award and Shayla Rahman Tithi’s ‘Joy Bangla’ was awarded in the Best International Director category at Kurukshetra University auditorium yesterday (August 11) at 8 pm.
The glorious ‘Haryana International Film Festival-2024’ of Haryana state of North India started with grand arrangements on August 7. Representing Bangladesh in this colorful festival are ‘A Letter of Postmaster’ by Supin Burman and ‘Joy Bangla’ by Shayla Rahman Tithi produced in Bogra.
A fictional story revolves around Ratan, the central character of poet Rabindranath Tagore’s short story Postmaster. Where it can be seen, Ratan is a teenager. He loves to roam like a free bird in the forest. But due to age and social system, he is blocked in the social chain. The villagers arrange the marriage of orphan Ratan with an influential old man of that village. The old man fell ill at the wedding hall. Meanwhile, a letter from the postmaster arrived from Calcutta. Where it was written, the postmaster wants to take him to Calcutta and teach him education. Ratan started dreaming again. Rhea Mohant played the role of Ratan in the movie ‘A Letter of Postmaster’. Acted in other roles – Bidhan Roy, Sadekur Rahman Sujan, Niva Rani Sarkar, Shahadat Hossain, Mizanur Rahman, Uppal Dutta etc. The film was also screened at Dhaka International Film Festival, Nepal International Film Festival.
Shaila Rahman Tithi’s liberation war based film ‘Jaibangla’ has already been screened at Dhaka International Film Festival, Bogra International Film Festival and Nepal International Film Festival. Poet Jasim Chowdhury produced ‘Joy Bangla’ with story and direction by Shayla Rahman Tithi with dialogues and screenplay by Sajin Ahmed Babu. Tariq Anam Khan, Farzana Chumki and others have acted in various roles in this film based on a unique true incident of Bangladesh’s liberation war.
