The team from Sporting Clube de Portugal (SCP) won the XVI International Under-15 Tournament of Abrantes, defeating Sport Lisboa e Benfica 3-2 in the final held on August 11 at the main field of the Municipal Stadium of Abrantes.
In six editions, it was the fourth time that SCP has claimed the main trophy of the tournament, now tying with Futebol Clube do Porto, which has also won four cups.
A new feature introduced for this edition was the presentation of individual awards. Thus, the tournament’s top scorer was Duarte Mendes (Benfica) and the best player award went to Francisco Wang (Benfica). The best goalkeeper trophy was awarded to Gabriel Correia (FC Porto). The Discipline Trophy also went to FC Porto.
Between August 9 and 11, six teams competed in this tournament, with matches taking place at the Sports City and various football fields in the municipality: Comendador Eduardo Duarte Ferreira Games Field in Tramagal; Pego Games Field; Rossio ao Sul do Tejo Games Field; and CUF Field in Alferrarede.
Marco Caneira was the patron of this nationally recognized competition, approved by the Portuguese Football Federation and organized by the Municipality, which brought together 200 participants in Abrantes.
In this edition, the Abrantes Municipal Selection, guided by Marco Cadete and Hermínio Rosado (“Minito”), was composed of athletes from the Clube Desportivo e Recreativo “Os Dragões” of Alferrarede, Sport Abrantes e Benfica, the Núcleo Sportinguista de Alferrarede, and the Casa do Povo do Pego.
