/ The Deputy Director of the Iranian Trade Development Organization, Mohammad Sadiq Qanadzadeh, said on Friday that trade between Iran and Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, is ongoing and has not been affected by the boycott calls.
Last week, following the Iranian ballistic missile attack on unarmed civilians in Erbil, the Erbil Chamber of Commerce called on merchants to boycott Iranian products.
Regarding the ban on Iranian goods imposed by Erbil, the official Iranian Mehr News Agency quoted Qanadzadeh as saying: This statement did not have a special impact on the volume of trade between Iran and Erbil, adding that: The private sectors of the two countries have a long-standing relationship and do not pay much attention to this issue.
He continued, “According to our field investigations, nothing special has happened so far, and trade between Iran and Erbil, Iraq, is continuing.”
The deputy of the Iranian Trade Promotion Organization continued, “In general, there was no special ban or change in trade between the two countries,” adding, “Only the past few days were a psychological process, and did not have a significant impact, and now trade is going on as before.”
Last Monday, January 16, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard launched a violent bombardment with ballistic missiles targeting civilian areas in the city of Erbil, which resulted in the deaths and injuries of 11 civilians.
Last Monday, the Tehran Chamber of Commerce expressed its “deep regret” over the Erbil Chamber of Commerce’s call for merchants and individuals to boycott Iranian goods, stressing the need for continued economic cooperation between Iraq and the Kurdistan Region with Iran.
