On February 24, RA Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan received the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Armenia, Mighaland Duraj Lamavansa (residence: Moscow). Honorary Consul of RA in Sri Lanka Sargis Tarverdyan also participated in the meeting.
Vahan Kerobyan congratulated Migahaland Duraj Lamavansa on the occasion of his appointment as Sri Lanka’s ambassador to Armenia, and also welcomed the ambassador’s first visit to Armenia for the purpose of accreditation, wishing him a successful activity in the expansion of bilateral cooperation.
Referring to the possible developments of cooperation between Armenia and Sri Lanka, the minister emphasized the importance of forming cooperation in various sectors of the economy. He proposed to consider the possibilities of establishing joint ventures and branches of Sri Lankan companies in Armenia, which will allow the latter to enter the markets of third countries with products released in Armenia.
Ambassador Migahaland Duraj Lamawansa, for his part, while welcoming the minister, noted that there is a great potential between the two countries for mutually beneficial cooperation in a number of promising fields and offered to consider the possibilities of creating an intergovernmental commission to more effectively organize joint work in various prospective directions.
Both parties emphasized the opening of direct flights to expand cooperation in the field of tourism, as well as the organization of familiarization visits of Sri Lankan media to Armenia.
At the end of the meeting, an agreement was reached to support the organization of mutual visits of business delegations and the holding of business forums in order to increase the volume of trade between the two countries, as well as to establish possible cooperation in the investment sector.
