The Ministry of Agriculture announced today, Tuesday, the mechanism for importing live fish from neighboring countries, while indicating the formation of a joint committee to supervise the import of fish.
The Director of the Quarantine Department at the Ministry, Basem Muhammad, told the (INA): “Opening the door to importing live fish from countries came in accordance with the decisions of the Council of Ministers to reduce their prices, which have increased significantly,” noting that “carp and other species will be imported, in order to support the reduction of prices.”
He added, “The mechanism for importing live fish is through submitting a request to the Ministry of Agriculture, then to the Veterinary Department, for approval, and then the import license is issued by the Iraqi exhibitions.”
He continued: “After that, the process of importing live fish tanks will take place, which will be inspected by a joint committee from the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Agriculture, to ensure their safety and the imported species, then approval is issued and fees are taken.”
