9th edition of FOCAC: The President of the Transition Year takes part in the opening ceremony

Beijing, September 5, 2024 – At the invitation of his Chinese counterpart HE Xi Jinping, Brigadier General Oligui Nguema participated today in the opening ceremony of the 9th edition of the Forum for Sino-African Cooperation (FOCAC) like his African peers as well as The Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr. Antonio Guterres and the President of the African Union Commission, Mr. Moussa Faki, among other distinguished guests.
Around the theme” join hands to promote modernization and build a high-level China-Africa community with a shared future “, China and 53 African countries like Gabon, met in Beijing to discuss mechanisms to raise cooperation to a strategic level and strengthen decades-old friendship. An important trading partner of many countries in the Africa, China, a significant source of investment in said continent, considers this summit as an opportunity to strengthen its ties with Africa.
In his welcoming remarks, President Xi Jinping returned to the need to develop a new type of cooperation under the seal of multi-sectoral modernization focused on openness and win-win, justice and fairness, respect for the environment, peace and security, diversity and inclusion, primacy of the people.
To this end, China proposed to its African partners 10 key partnership actions including trade prosperity, industrial chains, interconnection, health, agriculture, human and cultural exchanges, green development, common security.
Also, to ensure the implementation of these partnership actions, China is committed to providing financial support to Africa of a total of 600 billion yuan over a period of 3 years. These funds will be intended to finance investments in key sectors such as infrastructure, the digital economy, agriculture and energy among others.
The President of the Republic, who spoke during the Heads of State panel entitled “The Belt and the Road”, highlighted the opportunity this initiative offers to African countries seeking socio-economic and infrastructural development, while welcoming support Chinese finance for African countries. and expressing Gabon’s support for the plan of action proposed by the Chinese authorities.
The first participation of General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema in this major conference shows his vision for the development of infrastructure, the revival of the economy, a new form of governance, transparent and inclusive.
