Indian Students | 90% of MBBS students abroad fail qualifying exams in India: Union Minister – News18 Malayalam

by time news
According to Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi, 90% of Indians studying medicine abroad fail the aptitude test in India. He made the allegations while talking about the repatriation of Indian students stranded in Ukraine. Those studying MBBS abroad must pass the Foreign Medical Graduates’ Examination (FMGE) to work as a doctor in India. “It is not the right time for students to discuss why they are going to study medicine abroad,” he told the Times of India. Prahlad Joshi said the Indian embassy in Ukraine had deployed additional staff to ensure the safe return of Indian students as efforts to evacuate them from Ukraine progressed.

Every year thousands of students from India go abroad for medical studies. One of the main reasons for this is that in some countries it is possible to get an MBBS degree at a lower cost than in India. But it is also a fact that it is easier to get admission in medical colleges abroad than in India where there is stiff competition for limited seats.

Following the withdrawal of India from the United Nations Security Council vote condemning the Russian occupation of Ukraine, many rumors have been circulating on social media. Prahlad Joshi said the government has not yet checked such videos shared on social media. He added that students were facing problems on the battlefield and that in some areas, especially in Kharkiv and Kiev, food and water were not even available. He said he was in contact with the Ukrainian and Russian governments and that all students would be repatriated soon.

At the same time, former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda called on all to work together and not to politicize the evacuation process from Ukraine. He made his request on Twitter. He also pointed out that in this crisis phase of the war, it is very bad to spread news unnecessarily on social media. I watch videos of students trapped in Ukraine requesting rescue. It is heartbreaking to see their plight. He said he was giving instructions to the embassies and hoped that all Indians would be repatriated soon.
