Appointment of 2 new independent directors in DSE

Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) has appointed two new independent directors in Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the main stock market of the country. Two new independent directors have been appointed in their place as the two independent directors appointed earlier expressed their inability to perform the duties.

Appointment of 2 new independent directors in DSE

This decision was taken at the 922nd emergency commission meeting held on Thursday (September 19) under the chairmanship of BSEC Chairman Khandkar Rashed Maqsood. This information was informed in a press release signed by BSEC Director and Spokesperson Farhana Farooqui.

The two independent directors appointed to DSE are Mominul Islam, founder of Clinic Advisory and former managing director and CEO of IPDC Finance Limited and Shahnaz Sultana, CEO and Chief Consultant of Fins Alliance and Risk Advisory and Consultancy and former country manager of Wells Fargo Bank Bangladesh.

According to the press release, the 918th (Emergency) Commission meeting held on September 1 has appointed 7 independent directors to the Board of Directors of Dhaka Stock Exchange PLC in accordance with Section 24 of the Exchanges Demutualization Act, 2013 and other related laws. The 2 independent directors appointed subsequently expressed their inability to take charge. Later, by the decision of the 921st commission meeting held on September 18, 2 new independent directors were appointed in place of the said independent directors who expressed incompetence. 2 appointed independent directors also expressed incapacity to take charge. As a result, they have been appointed in place of two independent directors.
