As “Sovetsky Sport” has learned, the FIFA conference has adopted a decision on the abolition of the agent licensing system. Omar Ongaro, the head of the FIFA status and football player transfer committee, announced this at the conference.
This means that the activities of agents will no longer be controlled by national federations, and the institution of licensing agents will be abolished. Following the changes FIFA is making, footballers and clubs will likely be required to report their dealings with agents or other intermediaries. The national federations cannot present any objection to the agents because they will cease to be a football entity. Agents simultaneously lose the opportunity to protect their interests at the football level.
It can be said that FIFA, by adopting such a decision, admits that it is impossible to influence or control the activities of agents who are licensed by national federations.
According to the available information, within a year, FIFA will prepare documents on the abolition of the agent licensing institute and reporting of clubs and players.
