The Bangladesh Film Censor Board has been demanding to be changed into a certification board for a long time. After the recent reorganization of the Censor Board, questions have been raised in the film industry about several members.
A few days ago, film producers Samsul Alam, Shaheen Suman, Omar Sunny led a press conference at FDC. The conference demanded that the Censor Board should be canceled and the Censor Certification Board should be established as soon as possible and the members of the committee should be reformed.
In the face of the protests of the film leaders and the long-standing demands of the film industry, the name of the Censor Board has been changed to Bangladesh Film Certification Board. But many people in the film industry are not satisfied with the board members not being reformed. Badiul Alam Khokon, Shiva Shanu, AJ Rana, Simon Tariq, Shimul Babu, Keya Chowdhury, Hussain Anwar, Sharmin Ahmed, KA Niloy, Russell Ahmed, Delwar Hossain Dilu, Khairul Islam and others are in this list.
Although the Certification Board has been reconstituted, most of the members of the defunct Censor Board remain intact. This happened again. Only two members have been changed and new film producer and director Zahid Hossain and film editor Iqbal Ehsanul Karim have been added. This has caused dissatisfaction among the agitating film leaders. There has been a demand to cancel the entire committee and fill it with new acceptable people.
In this regard, filmmaker Simon Tariq said, ‘Our demands have not been reflected in the newly formed certification board. Some controversial people have been placed in this committee; which we do not accept. So the whole board has to be recast.’
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued a notification yesterday (September 22) reorganizing the Bangladesh Film Certification Board by excluding the Censor Board. It is said that the 15-member film certification board will be chaired by the secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The Vice Chairman of the Bangladesh Film Censor Board has been made the member secretary of the board.
Other members of the Board include— Secretary, Department of Law and Justice; Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser; Additional Secretary (Films), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting; A representative of the rank of Joint Secretary or above of the Department of Public Security; Bangladesh Film Development Corporation Managing Director; President of Bangladesh Film Directors Association.
There are also independent university professors and filmmakers and researchers. Zakir Hossain Raju; Film producer and director Rafiqul Anwar Russell; Film producer, director, distributor, writer and organizer Zahid Hossain; Film Editor Iqbal Ehsanul Kabir; Film director Khizir Hayat Khan; Film actress Naushaba Ahmed and film director Tasmia Afrin Mau.
