Recently, the Jury Board and Film Censor Board of ‘National Film Awards 2023’ have been reconstituted. Ashfaq Nipun, who resigned from the Censor Board a few days ago, and legendary actress Shabnam turned down the offer to become a member. This time legendary actor Ilyas Kanchan withdrew from the jury board of National Film Awards.
Explaining the reason for stepping down from the jury board, Elias Kanchan said, ‘You know, many films are submitted to the National Film Award jury board. Its time is less. It is time consuming to watch and analyze a movie during this period. Currently I am busy with various works. So I have decided to step down from this post. I think it’s better to give others a chance instead of being in a position where I can’t give time.’
On September 15, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued a notification reorganizing the ‘jury board’ for awarding the National Film Award-2023. A total of 13 members were announced there with the Additional Secretary (Films) of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting as the chairman. The vice chairman of the Bangladesh Film Censor Board is kept as member secretary.
Other members of the jury board included actor Ilyas Kanchan, filmmaker Zahidur Rahim Anjan, music director Prince Mahmud, cinematographer Barkat Hossain, actress Opi Karim, musician Nazmun Munira Nancy, Dhaka University Television, Film and Photography Department president SM Imran Hossain and journalist Wahid Sujan. Among them Ilyas Kanchan stepped down from his post.
The notification also mentioned that National Film Awards will be given in total 28 categories like every time.
