The European Court of Human Rights published the verdict in the case “Narayan and others v. Azerbaijan”.

According to the decision of the ECHR, Article 2 of the Convention (right to life) was violated regarding the death of servicemen Edgar Narayan and Erik Abovyan, as well as the lack of investigation into the circumstances of their death.

According to the decision of the ECHR, Azerbaijan is obliged to pay applicants 16,000 euros for each application, plus any tax that may be levied for non-pecuniary damage, within three months from the date of legal entry into force of the court’s judgment in accordance with Article 44, paragraph 2 of the Convention. , EUR 2,780 per application, to be paid jointly to the respective applicants, plus any tax that may be charged to them in respect of costs.

The applicants are relatives of servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia. The case refers to the killing of Armenian servicemen by Azerbaijani soldier Chingiz Gurbanov.

Edgar Narayan, born in 1995, Erik Abovyan, born in 1996, and Shavarsh Melikyan, born in 1990, died on December 29, 2016 while on duty at the “Bitlis” combat position near the village of Chinari, Tavush Marz, RA.
