Shot in student movement

Junaid Islam Ratul
After fighting for 49 days, Junaid Islam Ratul, a school student who was shot, joined the student movement and succumbed to death.
On Monday (September 23) morning, he died while undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Agargaon in the capital.
Ratul’s house is in Bogra. He was a 6th standard student of Bogra Path Public School. His father’s name is Ziaur Rahman.
Jerin Sultana, Ratul’s elder sister, said, Ratul and my husband went to the anti-discrimination student movement despite the mother’s prohibition without having breakfast on August 5. At one time we reached Jhowtla near Bogra Sadar police station with a procession. Ratul was injured when the police fired at the procession.
He also said, I was very close to him at that time. Suddenly, Ratul received four bullets in his head. One of the bullets entered Ratul’s head through his left eye. Later I took him to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital. Doctors there referred him to Neurosciences Hospital in Dhaka. After we brought him to Dhaka, he underwent head surgery. Doctors removed a bullet from inside the brain. Ratul was then given artificial respiration.
He said that after the operation, the doctors said that even if Ratul returns alive, he may lose his eyesight forever. But in the end he did not survive.
