The bank accounts of Awami League President and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajib Wazed Joy and his daughter Saima Wazed Putul have been suspended.

Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) of Bangladesh Bank has sent instructions in this regard to all banks and financial institutions of the country.

A senior official of BFIU confirmed the information on Monday (September 30).

Sajib Wazed and Saima Wazed Hossain’s personal and privately owned bank accounts will be suspended. For the next 30 days, no transactions should be made on these accounts. If necessary, this period of suspending the transaction will be extended.

BFIU’s letter said that relevant provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Rules will apply to this order to suspend transactions. In the letter, their name, national identity card information is given.

Banks have been asked to send account related information or documents such as account opening form, KYC and transaction statement to BFIU of those whose accounts have been suspended.

Incidentally, Sajib Ahmed Wazed Joy is the first child of Sheikh Hasina and nuclear scientist MA Wazed Mia. He was an unpaid information and communication technology advisor to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during the previous Awami League government.

Saima Wazed Puthul is a renowned autism expert. He is a prominent nuclear scientist. Wazed Mia and Sheikh Hasina are the second child of the couple. He has been serving as Regional Director of the World Health Organization since 1 November 2023.

The BFIU has ordered the suspension of the bank accounts of Sheikh Rehana’s son Radwan Mujib (Bobby), former Minister of State for Power Nasrul Hamid (BPU) and Awami League’s research institute Center for Research and Information (CRI) and CRI-Young Bangla Project.
