Mikail Minasyan, the former RA ambassador to the Holy See, made a scandalous revelation the other day, announcing that during the quarantine days, a whole planeload of contraband cigarettes was exported from Armenia, allegedly to Afghanistan, but was intended to be sold in the Russian Federation.
During today’s press conference, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan addressed the issue of his wife Anna Hakobyan’s brother, MP Hrachya Hakobyan, according to which he smuggled cigarettes.
“I want to record that the SRC did not commit any illegality regarding the export of tobacco. Those exporters themselves should have exported to a third country and tried to sell illegally in a country that they could not do. The law enforcement agencies of that country should deal with that issue and punish all the culprits,” said the Prime Minister.
He did not comment on another revelation by Minasyan that the smuggling scheme was led by his family members, including Hrachya Hakobyan.
“I am aware of the episode concerning my wife’s brother, Hrachya filed a lawsuit. I am happy that a public trial will take place, and I will not need to answer that question, but during the trial you will all have the opportunity to see what is right and what is wrong,” said Pashinyan.
