earthquake is predicted in Turkey“/>
According to Turkish media, A powerful earthquake of magnitude 7.8 is expected in the Marmara region of Turkey.
According to Day.Az, this was reported by the professor Orkhan TatarDirector General of the Turkish Emergency Management Agency (AFAD).
The expert explains that the upcoming natural disaster will be a consequence of accumulated underground energy that has existed for 250 years. He noted that there were still fault lines in the area between the 1999 Izmit earthquake and the 1912 Mürefte (Şarköy) earthquake.
According to the professor, tension in this area is growing every year.
“The fault lines are moving 2.5 centimeters to the west every year. As soon as the elasticity of these faults is exhausted, an earthquake will occur,” warned Orhan Tatar.
He also added that at the moment the fault lines have already shifted by 6-7 meters.
“During the recent earthquake in Turkey, bending of railway tracks was recorded. This indicates the possibility of an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 to 7.8,” the expert concluded.
