Slovenia will send <a href="https://time.news/israel-confirms-release-of-17-hostages/" title="Israel confirms release of 17 hostages”>humanitarian aid worth 500,000 euros to Lebanon, which is facing a humanitarian and refugee crisis due to the war between Israel and the Islamist group Hezbollah, according to a statement on the website of the Slovenian Foreign Ministry, BTA reported.
The agency will provide the aid in cooperation with the charity organization “Caritas” and the Slovenian humanitarian organization ITF (ITF).
Over one million people are already in need of assistance, over 160,000 people are in refugee camps and over 300,000 people do not have access to drinking water. Slovenia will deliver packages of food, blankets, hygiene materials for more than 40,000 people, the ministry announced yesterday on its profile on the X social network.
2,400 internally displaced families will also receive financial support to pay their rents.
Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, triggered by the unprecedented attacks by Hamas on October 7, has been accompanied by almost a year of cross-border clashes with Hezbollah in Lebanon.
The conflict has already spilled over into Lebanon, where Israeli forces have significantly weakened the Iran-backed militant group, with media reports saying they have killed much of its leadership, DPA said.
There remains a risk of the war expanding in the region, as Israel continues to strike Lebanon and Hezbollah continues to fire rockets into Israel, as well as against the backdrop of Iran’s recent attack on Israeli territory.
