Russian news agency TASS has given this information quoting the Russian Foreign Ministry. The ministry said that this decision has been taken at the highest level. Zamir Kabulov, President Vladimir Putin’s special representative on Afghanistan, was quoted as saying that various legal procedures must be followed to implement the decision.
Russia maintaining relations with Taliban
Russia has been gradually building relations with the Taliban since they seized power in Afghanistan in August 2021. Putin had said in July this year that Russia considers the Taliban movement of Afghanistan as an ally in the fight against terrorism. However, Russia still officially lists Taliban as illegal organizations.
No country has formally recognized the Taliban as the country’s legitimate leadership. However, China and the UAE have accepted its ambassadors. Moscow formally declared the Taliban a terrorist organization in 2003. Its removal would be an important step towards normalizing relations with Afghanistan.
