Controversy Surrounding Beyoncé’s Creative Director Andrew Makadsi
October 7, 2024
The creative director of Beyoncé‘s company, Parkwood Entertainment, is under intense scrutiny from New York Congressman Ritchie Torres, who believes an influencer allegedly promoting violence “has no business” shaping culture.
On Instagram, Torres shared a screenshot of a prior post by Andrew Makadsi, which included a shocking image of a man who set his arm on fire at a protest in Washington, D.C. Torres accuses Makadsi of glorifying the self-immolation of an anti-Israel activist.
This controversy comes just before the eve of October 7, a date that marks one year since Hamas‘s attack on Israel, which resulted in the deaths of 1,200 people and the kidnapping of 251.
Torres stated, “Any cultural influencer who glorifies violence and aestheticizes Antisemitism and AntiZionism has no business influencing any culture, let alone our own.”
Back in July, a post shared by StopAntisemitism claimed that Makadsi made violent remarks on his Instagram Stories, which were only visible for 24 hours, calling for “death to all zi0s and their followers.”
Beyoncé has yet to publicly address this situation, but many fans have taken to tagging her under Makadsi’s post, voicing their disappointment and questioning whether she wishes to be associated with him.
