DIG/ The partnership between UNESCO and Owendo Container Terminal (OCT) to require microbiology kits in secondary schools in Down River has now been launched.
The official kit delivery ceremony was held recently at ALENAKIRI High School, marking the start of an initiative aimed at enriching science education in the region.
Indeed, this partnership aims to improve the practice of experimental sciences by providing microscience equipment adapted to non-specialist classrooms.
Teachers and support staff benefited from training from September 18 to 19 and from September 24 to 26, 2024 to optimize the use of these educational tools. This initiative comes in a context of low interest in science, with only 4,824 students registered for the science baccalaureate tests compared to more than 20,000 for the literary and economic series.
By facilitating access to quality educational resources, this project aims to generate genuine enthusiasm for scientific disciplines.
“As a key economic player in Owendo, OCT has a strong commitment to the local community. It is in this dynamic that we have launched this project to support secondary schools in Abhainn Doe.
We are sure that this system will have a big impact on science education in the long term, by arousing young people’s curiosity about science careers.”pointed out Laurent Goutard, General Manager of Owendo Container.
“This initiative goes beyond simple collaboration; it reflects our shared vision of quality scientific education in Gabon.
Together, we are laying the foundation for a future where every student can flourish in science, contributing to the prosperity of this great country, Gabon.” declared Eric VOLI BI, UNESCO Representative in Gabon.
OCT, in collaboration with UNESCO, reaffirms its commitment to education and science, with the aim of having a concrete impact on the future of young people in Owendo.
