At the moment, it is impossible to give an accurate forecast of whether the coronavirus infection will one day be completely eliminated, but sooner or later it will become manageable. This opinion was expressed by the head physician of the City Clinical Hospital No. 52 in Moscow, Maryana Lysenko.

“We believe that sooner or later COVID-19 will certainly not be so aggressive, it will be manageable. I think we won’t have to talk about complete elimination for some time, because this is a new virus, ”Lysenko said.

In addition, the expert added that the best possible scenario for the development of the situation with coronavirus is that the virus will become seasonal.

According to the doctor, the infectious process will be controlled with mass vaccination against coronavirus, which will lead to the formation of herd immunity.

“So, they can be predictable, which means that the number of cases will be small,” she said.

Earlier, on March 2, WHO announced a 16% drop in the incidence of coronavirus, and mortality, according to the organization, decreased by 10%.

On February 21, the representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in the Russian Federation, Melita Vujnovic, said that the pandemic could come to an end in 2022. However, this does not mean that the virus will go away, she said, but it is possible that large outbreaks will end when the Omicron strain “circles the entire globe.”

At the same time, Sergey Voznesensky, Associate Professor of the Department of Infectious Diseases at RUDN University, emphasized that forecasting is a dangerous thing, since for an accurate forecast you need to have an array of data not only for today, but also for the period that will be taken into account in the forecast.

In the Russian Federation, a large-scale vaccination campaign is underway. Citizens are vaccinated for free. Six vaccines against coronavirus have been registered in the country: Sputnik V, which became the first vaccine against COVID-19 in the Russian Federation and the world, as well as Sputnik Light, Sputnik M, EpiVacCorona, EpiVacCorona-N and KoviVac .
