Discussion with representatives of disabled sports

by times news cr

At the initiative of RA Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Hrachya Rostomyan, representatives of about 10 non-governmental organizations representing the field participated in the discussion dedicated to the prospects of disabled sports in Armenia.

Welcoming the attendees, the minister called on everyone to be as sincere as possible and put forward specific recommendations to make the participation of the representatives of the vulnerable strata of society in sports more targeted and effective.

“It will be possible to record the best sports results only in case of joint and coordinated work,” said the minister.

In his words, the 2013-2017 program for the development of disabled sports has already been submitted to the Government, which includes many problems related to the field and the ways of solving them.

“We expect you, as representatives of organizations dealing with the problems of disabled athletes, to take an active part in the implementation process of that program,” said H. Rostomyan.

According to the minister, what is important is the popularization of sports and, as much as possible, the participation of a large number of disabled people in sports events.

“If necessary, one can initiate and hold tournaments of new sports: backgammon, chess, etc. It is necessary to make sure that disabled athletes have the opportunity to communicate with each other more often. Their integration into society is more important than sports achievements and medals,” stressed H. Rostomyan.

The attendees thanked the minister for the meeting and noted that such an event is being organized for the first time by the head of the sector. They expressed hope that thanks to the state support, it will be possible to solve many problems in the sector. This was reported by the information and public relations department of the RA Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs.

Hrachya Rostomyan instructed the relevant units of the ministry to closely cooperate with organizations dealing with disabled sports issues, collect all their recommendations and organize a new meeting in the next week to discuss these recommendations and draw up the program of events.
