It’s all natural. On 1 October Yann Arthus-Bertrand inaugurated the Vallée de la Millière, a site dedicated to biodiversity and education located in Les Mesnuls (Yvelines). An oasis of peace made possible thanks to the sponsorship of LVMH, which has made it its “environmental campus”.
Overall, the project aims to raise awareness of environmental issues among various audiences, from businesses to schools. For the photographer it is a way to “give back to the earth what I have taken from it”. Yann Arthus-Bertrand, a resident of Les Mesnuls for more than thirty years, purchased the 30-hectare plot in 2020. And after three years of work, the results are already visible: on the one hand, wildlife is gradually returning; the experimental garden managed by his son is instead lush.
Tom Arthus loves this garden: “The idea is to entice people to do the same at home, but it’s also a way to introduce people to the world of agriculture, particularly horticulture and its practices.” Furthermore, the harvested fruit and vegetables are used at the Château des Mesnuls, but also in a brasserie, a grocery store and a gourmet restaurant near the valley, as reported on the website Attu of 78.
With a dozen accommodations, the site offers both discovery or training sessions of a few hours, but also longer stays. The team hopes to be able to keep its promise, namely to provide everyone with an “experience of reclaiming the environment through nature and biodiversity”.
