Russians forces widen offensive after Ukraine partial ceasefire collapses

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that declaring a no-fly zone over Ukraine would be considered “participation in the armed struggle.”

Kyiv: The Russian Defense Ministry has announced that it has resumed “offensive operations” following the end of a ceasefire announced to evacuate people from two Ukrainian cities. According to the Interfax news agency, the ministry said that Russian troops had captured several cities in Ukraine and shot down four Ukrainian SU-27 jets. The Russian news agency reports that Russian forces have destroyed 90 planes since Russia began its occupation of Ukraine on February 24.

Russian media have reported that the Russian military has declared a ceasefire in two regions of Ukraine to evacuate civilians. Russia’s Defense Ministry said in a statement that it had agreed to evacuate people from the southeastern port city of Mariupol and the eastern city of Volnovakha from 10 a.m. Moscow time (8 am GMT). But Ukraine later accused Russia of violating the ceasefire. The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement that the attack had resumed.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that declaring a no – fly zone over Ukraine would be considered “participation in the armed struggle.” Putin made the remarks during a meeting with women pilots on Saturday.
