After the inauguration of the Pune Metro Rail project, pictures of the Prime Minister traveling on the Metro with school children went viral. The Prime Minister shared the pictures on Twitter with the caption ‘On the Pune Metro with my childhood friends’.

The Youth Congress took to the stage mocking this. Youth Congress National President BV Srinivas tweeted, “Which school is running today, Sunday?” Some joked that there was a special class on Saturday and Sunday because the lessons were over. Some pointed out that only the Prime Minister, who told children to wear masks, was sitting without a mask.

The Prime Minister bought train tickets from the Metro and traveled from Garware Metro Station to Anandnagar station. The Prime Minister inaugurated the 12 km stretch of the 32.2 km long Pune Metro Rail project. The Prime Minister said that a comfortable and convenient journey would be ensured for the people of Pune.

The Pune Metro operates on two routes: Vanas to Garware College Metro Station and PCMC to Fugewadi Metro Station. The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the project on December 24, 2016. The total cost of the project is Rs 11,400 crore.
