Musk appears in ‘cyber cap’
“Full launch in 2026… “around 40 million won”
Some people are skeptical that commercialization will be difficult.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk boarded Tesla’s unmanned (robo) taxi ‘Cyber Cab’. Then, a robo taxi without a steering wheel, accelerator pedal, or side mirror ran down the road on its own. Musk also put his hands together as if to emphasize that he did not need to drive. When a group of bicycles passed at an intersection, the Cyber Cap slowed down on its own, showing off its safety. The scene where he appeared at the event in a cyber cab was broadcast live on the Tesla website.
On the 10th (local time), CEO Musk held the ‘We, Robot’ event at the Warner Bros. Film Studio in Burbank, Los Angeles, and unveiled the robo-taxi Cyber Cab. “I’m a little optimistic, but we’ll be launching the Cyber Cab by 2026, no earlier than 2027,” he said. “It will be licensed for unsupervised driving in areas that require regulatory approval.” Regarding the price of the Cyber Cap, Musk said, “It will be less than $30,000 (about 40 million won).” Self-driving technology is evaluated as Tesla’s weapon to beat Chinese companies with low-priced products. Tesla is advancing its technology by collecting vast amounts of self-driving information from drivers around the world who use its vehicles. As if to prove this, Tesla showed off its technological prowess by unveiling the self-driving bus ‘Robo Van’ that can carry about 20 people at once.
However, skeptical views still remain. This is because in 2019, an ‘empty ticket’ was already issued to complete the robo-taxi by the following year (2020). The fact that there was no detailed explanation of the technology applied to the cyber cap at the event is also considered a factor raising doubts about commercialization in 2026.
