The Vice President of the Republic of El Salvador, Mr. Félix Ulloa Jr., Dr. Felix Ulloa, he attended the connection ceremony between the municipal areas of Santa Catarina Mita, Guatemala and Santa Ana Oeste, El Salvador. The event also included the participation of the Guatemalan Municipal Mayor, Mr. Gerson García, and the Mayor of Santaneco, Mr. Jorge Castro.

The signing between the Candelaria Footwear Cooperative of the Border of Santa Ana Oeste (COOPROCAL de RL), and the Association of Shoemakers of Santa Catarina Mita, is the beginning of a new phase of cross-border cooperation, which promises to generate lasting benefits for both communities and their residents.

The Vice President said: “Today this bilateral agreement has been signed, which represents an important step for the union of the two countries. In memory of Justo Rufino Barrios who died in battle in this field fighting for the Union of Central America and all the others who asked for the true union of our people.” He added: “I want to congratulate with this initiative from two neighboring local governments, as well as the two cooperatives, which shows that integration is possible, possible and necessary.”

The Mayor of Santa Catarina Mita, Guatemala, Mr. Gerson García, said: “We are strategically well-connected neighbors. This fraternity is based on the vision to promote the progress of our people, laying the foundation for their development.” For his part, the Mayor of Santa Ana Oeste, Mr. Castro declared: “For us, it is extremely important that we have allies, especially as El Salvador changes its history, making the comprehensive vision of President Bukele a reality.”

This connection seeks to strengthen ties of friendship and cooperation between the two municipalities, taking advantage of their geographical, economic and cultural characteristics. The main focus is on commercial development, tourism, culture, education, health, agriculture, as well as environmental management.

The ceremony took place at the El Tazumal Archaeological Site.
