Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Jio has raised questions on the decision of the telecom regulator. Also, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has been demanded to intervene in the matter. Actually the whole matter is about satellite spectrum allocation. Jio has termed the spectrum allocation rules of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) as wrong. As you know, in India, internet and calling services will be provided through mobile towers as well as satellite, for which spectrum is being allocated by TRAI.Dispute over spectrum allocation
Ambani’s company Reliance Jio says that spectrum allocation should be done through auction. Mukesh Ambani and Elon Musk have come face to face regarding this. How spectrum allocation should be done in India. There is a controversy going on regarding this since last year. Actually the dispute over spectrum allocation is quite old. Earlier, there have been allegations of scam during 2G and 3G spectrum allocation.
Spectrum allocation was being done according to Elon Musk
In fact, satellite communication companies like Elon Musk’s Starlink Satellite Internet Company and its global players like Amazon’s Coupier, Bharti Group-backed OneWeb Eutelsat and SES-Jio joint venture are going to provide satellite services in India. However, Reliance Jio is unhappy with the government’s satellite spectrum allocation. Some people in the Indian telecom industry say that last year the satellite spectrum was allocated exactly as Elon Musk wanted, which is not right.
Demand for government intervention in the matter
Reliance says that there is no provision for satellite broadband service for any single person or home use. Reliance Jio’s Senior Regulatory Affairs Officer Kapur Singh has talked to TRAI and Jyotiraditya Sinditya in this matter and has demanded changes in the rules to allot the satellite spectrum through the auction process. TRAI has issued a consultation paper for satellite spectrum allocation, in which Jio has sought the intervention of the Union Minister.
