The first European championship for under-22 boxers is being held in Kaliningrad. The head coach of the Armenian national team, Karen Aghamalyan, as reported by the press department of the Armenian Olympic Committee, accompanied 7 athletes to the competition.
Hovhannes Bachkov from Gyumri – 60 kg and Hrayr Matevosyan from Yerevan – 69 kg failed in the preliminary rounds.
The quarter-final matches started today, in which the other five representatives of Armenia are participating. The first to enter the ring was Koryun Soghomonyan from Yerevan (49 kg). He confidently held the match, entered the semi-finals and secured at least a bronze medal for himself.
Artur Kirajyan (64 kg) was a very difficult competitor from Yerevan. He also had an excellent race. In particular, he showed activity, stood out with purposeful actions and did not doubt his advantage over the Lithuanian competitor, winner of the Singapore Youth Olympic Games, bronze medalist of the London Olympic Games. Alas, as often happens in big sports, the Yerevan native became a victim of referees’ bias, whose performance our coaches are extremely satisfied with.
Narek Abgaryan (52 kg) from Yerevan will compete in the evening match of the quarter-finals today.
Aram Abgaryan (56 kg) and super heavyweight Armen Simonyan from Yerevan will show their abilities to enter the semi-finals tomorrow.
