Diet Coke, cucumber water, jalapeños: singer Dua Lipa revealed the recipe for her new favorite drink. We’ve tested it so you don’t have to.
Stars are reluctant to provide intimate insights into their lives. A single juicy detail could damage your image or even destroy your career. A video that singer Dua Lipa posted on Tiktok falls into a slightly different category of hot and has horrified the internet.
In the minute-long clip, the 29-year-old reveals the recipe for her new favorite drink, which she apparently created herself. The drink doesn’t have a name yet; the ingredients are reminiscent of an anti-hangover cocktail.
The drink consists of Diet Coke, cucumber water and jalapeños. The singer sprinkles her cup with cucumber and jalapeño slices as toppings. The drink does not contain alcohol, which could justify this unusual mixture.
Anyone trying to imagine what beer tastes like might be reaching the limits of their imagination. THE stern tested the “Lipa drink”.
Geschmacksoffenbarung by Dua Lipa
What should probably make the drink more digestible is a large amount of crushed ice that is first poured into your favorite cup or glass. The mixture would probably be inedible at room temperature or even warm.
In the second step, fill the glass almost to the brim with sugar-free and artificially sweetened cola. Lipa itself uses the light product of the Coca-Cola brand. To avoid distorting the recipe, we do the same in this test.
When you open the pickle jar your first worries arise. How should acidity work with the spiciness of jalapeños and the sweetness of a soft drink? The first addition of the greenish liquid is done carefully.
The water from the pickled jalapeños completes the mixture. The glass is now full to the brim. Using pointy fingers, three slices of cucumber and chili pepper are draped over crushed ice.
The body signals: STOP!
As the glass gets closer to your lips, your eyes begin to water and your face contorts in disgust. The body signals: STOP! This is not good for you, for anyone.
Then the first sip, followed by relief and soon after by disappointment: the viral “Lipa drink,” which has sparked a worldwide outcry, doesn’t taste much different from stale cola. The only difference is that your fingers smell like cucumber water.
To taste something, you pour it in, multiply the amount of jalapeño juice and cucumber water, and take a second, much larger sip. Now it is possible to draw a clear conclusion: the “Lipa drink” is simply disgusting. At low doses, the sweetness of the cola neutralizes the acidity and spiciness. If you take a higher dose, it will taste disgusting.
But: the experience makes you think. What would the mix with tequila taste like? Or beer?! What if I used pineapple chunks instead of cucumber slices and natural orange juice instead of Diet Coke? Questions that need to be answered elsewhere. A few minutes after this test, the author felt mild nausea.
It’s not the first culinary recommendation
In fact, the “Lipa drink” is not the singer’s first culinary recommendation. In November 2023, in an interview with a British radio, she revealed which variant of ice cream she particularly likes: “I don’t think chocolate ice cream is that good. But you know what I love? So I take vanilla ice cream and put oil on it olive oil and sea salt.”
Many people she showed this to led her to the “dark side”. This tip also went viral, and Lipa applied for a license to market ice cream and other desserts under her name. Do you intend to do the same for cocktails too? BETTER NOT!
