The 2021 Grammy Awards, initially scheduled to be delivered on January 31 in the city of Los Angeles, were initially postponed to March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The American Recording Academy said they made the decision due to health concerns caused by the pandemic, travel permits and the increase in coronavirus cases in California.

The organizers postponed the date to the month of March waiting for cases to decrease and vaccination against COVID to increase, which according to US health authorities should increase considerably in the coming weeks.

Los Angeles is currently the epicenter of the pandemic in California, where there are already more than 10,000 deaths from COVID-19 and it is one of the states most affected by coronavirus in the United States.

Health authorities report six deaths every hour from COVID-19 in Los Angeles County, and anticipate an increase in cases after the New Year’s holidays.

The 2021 Grammy Awards, which will be broadcast from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, have the singer Beyoncé as the most nominated with nine distinctions.

Also among the nominees are Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa, Roddy Ricch, Jhené Aiko, Post Malone, Renée Zellweger, Billie Eilish, The Strokes, BTS, Megan Thee Stallion, Harry Styles and Blue Ivy Carter.

In this edition, Cuba will be represented by musicians such as Aymée Nuviola, and Gonzalo Rubalcaba and José Alberto Tamayo Díaz, who were nominated, respectively, for the albums Viento and Tiempo.
