Artak Zakaryan, a member of the RPA Executive Body, considers it dangerous to hold new special elections during Pashinyan’s prime ministership.
“It is a fact that Nikol was elected as the Prime Minister of Armenia three times. For the first time in 2018 in May, by seizing the power formed in 2017 with legal elections in RA. For the second time in 2018 with the special elections held in December. For the third time in 2021 through special elections held in June.
The topic of holding new extraordinary elections in 2024 has again started to circulate in the RA political backstage, which, of course, speaks of a planned dangerous new scenario.
Let’s try to briefly analyze what happened and understand why, besides clinging to power, Nikoli needs a new emergency election.
It is a fact that after each extraordinary election, Armenia suffered human and territorial losses, a decline in the security environment, public despair and a weakening of state sovereignty. It is also a fact that before each extraordinary election, Aliyev reduced the border tension, allowed the Armenian people to “elect” Nikol and “prepare” for new military clashes and painful losses.
2018 from May to December, and then, after the extraordinary parliamentary elections, until 2020. July, Nikol was given time to strengthen the power he had won internally, destroy the negotiation process, divide the society, change the authorities of Artsakh, weaken the morale and psychological spirit of the fighting part of the army and lead the developments to war. After that, the Tavush border military clashes and the 44-day war against Artsakh took place.
2020 After 44 wars, from December to 2021. June, again the border tension decreased (“Wouldn’t we fight for 30% of the Black Lake?”). Azerbaijan made it possible for Nikol to participate in 2021 with the support of various forces. to be re-elected for the third time in June and strengthen his broken power. Then in 2022 In September, three days of heavy military operations took place, and Azerbaijan invaded the sovereign territory of Armenia. Exactly one year after that, in 2023. in September, a one-day war took place against Artsakh, which had been besieged for 9 months, and with the open consent of Nikol, the Armenian people completely lost the Armenian Artsakh.
Despite widespread public indifference, it is clear that Nikol’s government in Armenia is almost completely discredited and lacks the legitimacy to make difficult decisions. It is also obvious that Azerbaijan has not yet completed its claim to Armenia and is looking for opportunities to seize new territories.
Against this background, it is no coincidence that Nikol’s entourage, in the case of public indifference, the use of administrative resources and the attention of the West, is thinking about going to new extraordinary elections. The goal is to gather “legitimacy” to make painful decisions in the wake of the new war and to replace the parliamentary opposition with absolute pro-Western and defeatist forces.
It will result in extraordinary elections every three years, resulting in new failures, losses and wars.
It is not for nothing that the people identify Nikol’s rule with conspiratorial wars and painful losses.
New extraordinary elections cannot be allowed under Nikol’s prime ministership. After the lost Artsakh, it will be a heavy blow to Armenia’s sovereignty and future. Nikol should be dismissed the way he came to power,” Artak Zakaryan wrote on his social media page.
