The military counter-intelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) has detained another Russian agent in the city of Kharkiv, who was spying on the positions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces and trying to help the invaders prepare new strikes in the region, Ukrinform reported, citing of SSU.
The detainee is a 37-year-old local resident. The Russian Federal Security Service (FSS) recruited him to Russia, where he fled at the start of the full-scale war, as his wife lived there.
It was established that on the orders of FSS officer Yevgeny Konyakhin, the agent returned to Kharkiv in March 2023 through third countries and then began to perform tasks for the enemy.
The main targets of the invaders were military training grounds where the defenders of Ukraine are trained.
The arrested person carried out reconnaissance missions under the guise of business trips, during which he secretly recorded the location of defense installations. He also tried to take advantage of his acquaintances, including military personnel and volunteers.
Concealing his intentions in the form of friendly conversations, the man tried to gather information about the bases of the Ukrainian troops, their approximate number and available weapons.
The SSU first uncovered the agent, documented his criminal activities and detained him as a result of a special operation. Charges have been brought against the suspect under the second part of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – treason committed during martial law, writes BTA.
The suspect is in custody. He faces life imprisonment and confiscation of property.
Ukrinform recalls that not long ago, another FSS agent was detained in Kharkiv, who corrected missile and drone strikes on units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces defending the city. The detainee was trying to identify and convey to the Russians the location of the air defense missile systems and radar stations of the Ukrainian armed forces.
