I took over the defense of Tsolak Akopyan, who was arrested for political reasons, lawyer Arsen Babayan said.

“Today, the RA anti-corruption committee arrested the vice-rector of Brusov State University, Tsolak Akopyan. The latter was charged under Article 441, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code (Abusing official or official powers or the influence caused by them or passing the powers).

The arrest was made in accordance with Article 111 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia (Arrest for bringing the accused who is at liberty to the court), that is, to bring the accused to court for the purpose of detention. Looking at the record of the arrest and the arrest decision, it becomes clear that the arrest was made illegally, because at the time of the arrest, the necessary conditions and purposes (grounds) for it were not present in any way.

This arrest and accusation is another manifestation of political persecution against Mr. Akopyan.

Tsolak Akopyan does not accept the accusation presented to him. The mood is good, the mood is fighting.

We are waiting for the appointment of the date and time of the court session.

Recently, Akopyan has been severely criticizing the current authorities for their destructive policy in the Artsakh issue. Tsolak Akopyan was recently arrested on another absurd charge.

Let me remind you that Tsolak Arami Akopyan is a candidate of political sciences, a lecturer with ten years of experience, a political scientist, the author of a number of scientific and public speaking articles,” wrote Babayan.
