According to Luchinina, “new strains of coronavirus” were identified in three cases, including a British strain, as well as an “unknown” one. She added that these patients have not recently traveled outside the region.

The representative of the Rospotrebnadzor department added that the results were confirmed by studies carried out by the FBSI Tyumen Research Institute of Regional Infectious Pathology and the FBSI SSC VB “Vector”.

Earlier, the chief sanitary doctor of the Russian Federation, Anna Popova, confirmed that the first case of human infection with a “delta strain”, a new mutation of the Indian strain of coronavirus, was indeed registered in Russia.

Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova at a profile meeting of the government said that new COVID-19 mutations can “escape” the immunity formed after an illness or vaccination, therefore, one should be vaccinated every six months, despite the presence of antibodies.
