Disruption of air defense networks – concerns over the possibility of biological and chemical warfare

Ukrainian media outlet RBC Ukraine reported on the 21st (local time) that North Korean forces are preparing a ‘military balloon’ attack along with Russian forces on the Ukrainian front. There are speculations that the experience of flying sewage balloons to South Korea could be revived to disrupt Ukraine’s air defense network or send biological weapons.

According to RBC Ukraine, 40 North Korean military instructors and 50 Russian soldiers were deployed in the Komutovka region of Kursk Oblast, southern Russia. Here, the North Korean army is teaching the Russian army how to use balloons for military purposes, and the Russian army is teaching the North Korean army modern infantry combat tactics.

There were also reports that North Korean workers participated in construction work in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine, which is occupied by the Russian military. On the 18th, the American media Radio Free Asia (RFA) quoted the Center of National Resistance (CNR) under the Special Operations Forces of the Ukrainian Army, saying, “North Korean workers are carrying out construction work in the Russian-occupied region of Ukraine,” adding, “This work involves the use of a specific air defense network.” “It also included work on the structure’s engineering equipment.”

Meanwhile, the theory of sending troops to Ukraine is being raised again among North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) member states. According to Politico Europe on the 21st, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis said, “If the information that Russian assassination units are being filled with North Korean ammunition and troops is confirmed to be true, we will also support French President Emmanuel Macron’s proposal (in February). “We need to reconsider ideas such as ‘introducing ground troops,’” he argued.
