“I regret to say that such bad relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Artsakh did not exist during the reign of any ruling elite. There was no such cut, and this cannot be justified by anything,” “Artsakh. Ashot Ghulyan, the former Speaker of the Artsakh National Assembly, said at the discussion titled “current issues and perspectives”, adding that it is not only about official relations. it is about human, personal relationships.

Ashot Ghulyan also considered it destructive to abandon the idea of preserving the statehood of Artsakh.

“The topic of preserving the statehood of Artsakh is not only a topic of today, it is a topic of the future. If we think about the development of our common Armenian political thought, the unified Armenian statehood, it is very important to be able to maintain the statehood of Artsakh properly,” said the former Speaker of the National Assembly of Artsakh.

He also wondered whether it is possible to forget what we have experienced in the last decades.

“It is surprising to me that it seems that in 10 days we have forgotten what has been on our Armenian united agenda for 30 years. In other words, have we forgotten the national awakening of 1988, have you forgotten the feeling of pride given to Artsakh, that all Armenia, the Diaspora, all the Armenian colonies lived with it? We have carried that sense of pride for 25 years and more, and it has been a united feeling. Holidays related to the statehood of Artsakh, our Three Days… If we remove these issues from our thoughts and agenda even temporarily, it will be very difficult to see the future of our people,” Ashot Ghulyan emphasized.

The Speaker of the National Assembly of Artsakh also mentioned that in parallel with ensuring the right of return of Artsakh citizens, we must also fight for the right of self-determination.

“The dream of every Artsakh citizen is to return to his country, his birthplace, his home. But if we cannot secure our right to self-determination along with the right of return, we will face another disappointment,” he said.
