Frederik Pleitgen is a reporter for CNN. He has been reporting for the American news channel, which belongs to Warner Media, since 2006, for three years from Moscow. In the past few weeks, Pleitgen has been traveling in Romania, Belarus and Russia, for two weeks he has been reporting from the border area between Russia and the Ukraine.
In an interview, Pleitgen tells how he assesses the situation in Russia and its people and how effective he thinks the Russian measures against independent reporting are. Many Russians, says Pleitgen, are also taking a critical and increasingly worried view of the situation. The entry of conscripts into the war could not be kept secret.
The sanctions have already had a strong impact, Russia was a country with one of the most modern payment systems. Shops are now closing and Western companies are withdrawing. That is exactly why it is important to be with reporters everywhere in Russia and Ukraine in order to be able to assess the situation well.
