We have concluded 2018 with fairly high economic growth indicators, State Minister of the Republic of Artsakh Grigory Martirosyan said in a conversation with journalists, the correspondent of Aysor.am reports from Artsakh.
“This year, the trend of high growth has been maintained and we have recorded 9.6 economic growth according to the results of the first half of the year,” he said.
According to the Minister of State, the economic growth was mainly ensured at the expense of the industry, in particular, at the expense of such a sub-sector as the cultural industry and energy.
Grigori Martirosyan noted that 1.5 percentage points of economic growth was ensured due to the construction.
According to the Minister of State, a monitoring system for the use of water resources was installed in Artsakh this year.
“Almost all hydropower plants have already installed them and will soon install them in all of them,” he said.
The Minister of State also emphasized the establishment of a shoe factory in Artsakh, which, according to him, produces high-quality products.
“More than eighty jobs have been created by that company, which gives its positive results,” he said.
Grigori Martirosyan emphasized the intensive development of agriculture.
“Under intensive development, we understand that we must apply such agribusiness models that will increase efficiency as much as possible, in particular, yield or grain yield,” he said.
According to the Minister of State, according to the results of 2018, the pomegranate harvest increased by more than 80 percent, the majority of which is procured by Armenian companies.
Grigory Martirosyan noted that, in fact, 2019 was very full in terms of tourism development in Artsakh.
“As a result, we had about 18,000 tourists in the first half of the year, we are talking only about foreign tourists, which is about 18.5 percent more than in the same period last year,” said the state minister.

Interview: A Conversation with Grigory Martirosyan, State Minister of Artsakh
Editor (Time.news): Welcome, Minister Martirosyan. It’s great to have you with us today. You recently announced impressive economic growth indicators for Artsakh. Can you tell us more about the factors contributing to this growth?
Grigory Martirosyan: Thank you for having me. Yes, we concluded 2018 with strong economic performance, and the trend continues into this year. For the first half of 2019, we’ve recorded a remarkable 9.6% growth, primarily driven by our industrial sector.
Editor: That’s remarkable! You mentioned that the cultural industry and energy sectors significantly contributed to this growth. How exactly do these sectors play a role in the economy of Artsakh?
Grigory Martirosyan: Absolutely. The cultural industry in Artsakh has unique potential, blending our rich history with modern innovations that attract both local and external investments. For instance, our cultural events, traditional crafts, and tourism are seeing increased engagement. In terms of energy, we’re focusing on sustainable and renewable sources, which not only reduce costs but also enhance our energy independence.
Editor: That’s interesting. You also mentioned construction as a significant factor, contributing about 1.5 percentage points to the growth. What types of construction projects are currently underway?
Grigory Martirosyan: Indeed, the construction sector has been thriving. We’re undertaking various projects, including residential buildings, commercial spaces, and infrastructure improvements. These projects create not just physical spaces but also job opportunities for our people, fostering both local employment and economic stability.
Editor: Speaking of jobs, I understand that a shoe factory has recently opened in Artsakh. Can you share more about this initiative and its impact on the local economy?
Grigory Martirosyan: Yes, the shoe factory is a significant development for us. It produces high-quality products and has created over eighty jobs for our residents. This factory not only contributes to reducing unemployment but also supports local suppliers and small businesses that provide materials and services.
Editor: Wonderful! You also mentioned a new monitoring system for water resource management installed in the hydropower plants. How does this initiative align with your broader economic goals?
Grigory Martirosyan: Water resource management is critical for us, particularly given the reliance on hydropower as a sustainable energy source. By installing monitoring systems in our hydropower plants, we can optimize water usage, ensure efficiency, and maximize output. This aligns with our strategic goals of developing renewable energy while maintaining environmental sustainability.
Editor: It’s clear that you are making significant strides in various sectors. As we look forward, what are your main priorities for the economic development of Artsakh in the coming years?
Grigory Martirosyan: Our priorities include continuing to diversify our economy, enhancing infrastructure, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, and investing in education and skills training. We want to create an environment where innovation thrives and our people can realize their potential.
Editor: Thank you for your insights, Minister Martirosyan. It sounds like exciting times are ahead for Artsakh!
Grigory Martirosyan: Thank you! I appreciate the opportunity to share our vision and accomplishments. We are optimistic about the future of Artsakh and committed to building a prosperous economy for our citizens.
