Ruth KLösch speaks of an “early Christmas miracle”. The animal rights activist, who runs the Katzentant’ association in Langenzersdorf, feared for her blind cat Kasimir for ten days – and with her a large community on social media, where the posting about missing Kasmir was eagerly shared. Langenzersdorf elementary school children finally discovered the eye-catching animal without eyes in the garden of the neighboring kindergarten.
Kasimir was uninjured and in good condition
Kasimir suffered from cat flu as a kitten, which is why both of his eyes had to be removed. Nevertheless, he always had a great desire for freedom. So he probably escaped through the door in an unnoticed moment. When KLösch got the call from a primary school teacher on Wednesday that Kasimir had been found, she was more than surprised. Because the elementary school is more than 1.5 kilometers away from her home. “He wasn’t dehydrated at all,” she says, wondering how a blind cat could survive on his own for so long.
After the call, the animal rights activist immediately got into the car and drove to the elementary school, where the 3A class and the teacher were already waiting for her. The children tried to catch the tomcat, but were unsuccessful. But they didn’t let him out of their sight until KLösch could put him in the transport box. “Before, I held him in my arms because the children wanted to pet him,” she says.
In any case, KLösch is “very, very” grateful to the elementary school children and the teacher. That’s why there will be a reunion soon, she promises. Then there will be sweets for the offspring, announces the animal rights activist.

How did the community come together to help find Kasimir when he went missing?
Interview Title: A Christmas Miracle for Kasimir: An Interview with Ruth Klösch
Editor: Welcome, Ruth Klösch, founder of the Katzentant association in Langenzersdorf. It’s wonderful to have you here today to discuss the inspiring story about your cat Kasimir. Can you start by sharing what happened when Kasimir went missing?
Ruth Klösch: Thank you for having me! It was quite a nerve-wracking experience. Kasimir went missing for ten long days after likely slipping out through an unnoticed door. As his guardian and someone deeply involved in animal rights, I was devastated. I started posting about him on social media, and the community came together, sharing his photo and details far and wide.
Editor: That’s incredible to see community support in action! I understand that Kasimir is blind and has had health challenges in the past. How did those factors play into your fears for his safety?
Ruth Klösch: Absolutely, those were significant concerns. Kasimir suffered from cat flu as a kitten, which led to the loss of both his eyes. He has such a strong will to live and a desire for freedom, but it’s hard not to worry when a blind cat is missing. I couldn’t help but think about how he would navigate his surroundings and find food or shelter.
Editor: And what a relief it must have been to hear from the elementary school about his discovery! Can you tell us how that moment unfolded?
Ruth Klösch: It was an “early Christmas miracle”! I received a call from a teacher who found him in the neighboring kindergarten’s garden, which is over 1.5 kilometers away from home. I was in total disbelief! To think that he could travel that distance on his own, especially without his sight, was astonishing.
Editor: That’s truly remarkable! When you arrived at the school, what was the reaction of the children who had been involved in finding him?
Ruth Klösch: The kids were so excited! They had spotted Kasimir and were eager to help. When I got there, they were all trying to catch him, but he was a little skittish. I held him in my arms while they pet him; they were just thrilled to see him safe and sound.
Editor: Did you have any insights into how Kasimir managed to survive out there for ten days?
Ruth Klösch: It’s a mystery! He wasn’t dehydrated at all when I found him, which makes me wonder how he managed. I think his instincts kicked in. Being a cat, he has natural hunting and survival abilities, even without sight. It’s a testament to the resilience of animals.
Editor: It certainly highlights their incredible instincts! How do you feel about the support from the community in this ordeal?
Ruth Klösch: I am immensely grateful for the outpouring of support! The community rallied around Kasimir’s story, and it really brings a sense of hope. It goes to show how much people care about animals, and how we can come together for a common cause.
Editor: It’s heartwarming to hear that. Now that Kasimir is back home, what are your plans for him and your advocacy work?
Ruth Klösch: We are just cherishing our time together, and I’m more determined than ever to raise awareness about animal welfare. Stories like Kasimir’s can help shine a light on the importance of keeping our pets safe and reminding people of the bond we share with animals.
Editor: Thank you for sharing this amazing experience, Ruth. Kasimir’s story is an example of hope and community spirit. Wishing you and Kasimir all the best in the future!
Ruth Klösch: Thank you! It’s been a pleasure to share our story.
