JAKARTA, Waspada.co.id – Thousands of Batak residents driven by Punguan Simbolon dohot Boruna Indonesia filled the Jakarta International Velodrome on Monday (18/11).
They came with one goal: to support the Ridwan Kamil–Suswono (RIDO) pair to win the Jakarta regional elections. Also present directly at the event, Effendi Simbolon.
The support of the Jakarta Batak Community for the Ridwan Kamil-Suswono couple was emphasized through an event entitled Mauliate Jakarta. Around 10 thousand people registered to attend the event. Mauliate Ridwan Kamil at the Velodrome broke the notion that the Batak community had their hearts set on other candidates.
The extraordinary response from the Jakarta Batak Community made Ridwan Kamil moved. He admitted that he felt very honored because he was received with open arms. Ridwan Kamil and Atalia Praratya even ululated and called themselves Ridwan Kamil Simbolon.
“If I can be honest, from the first time I entered this place, my heart was moved. “Thank you for being accepted, welcomed enthusiastically,” said Ridwan Kamil.
“I was advised by my parents, if you want to be a leader, your intentions should be good. The intention of being a leader should be for worship, seeking God’s pleasure. Not looking for rich, not looking for popularity. His intention is to make power a tool to give good things,” he explained.
Ridwan Kamil also ensured that he would be a leader for all groups. Inclusive and fair, regardless of background.
“I am a leader for all groups. I will serve, take care of all ethnicities in Jakarta. “Including my beloved Batak ethnic brothers,” he said. (wool/eco/d2)

What role does community unity play in preserving cultural heritage?
Interview: Supporting Cultural Heritage through Community Unity
Time.news Editor: Welcome, and thank you for joining us today! We’re excited to discuss the recent gathering at the Jakarta International Velodrome, where thousands of Batak residents came together. Can you first explain the significance of this event?
Expert: Thank you for having me! The gathering of the Batak community, driven by Punguan Simbolon dohot Boruna Indonesia, is a striking demonstration of cultural unity and collective identity. Events like this serve as a platform for the Batak people to celebrate their rich heritage, connect generations, and reinforce community bonds. It’s not just a cultural gathering; it’s a reaffirmation of their identity in a rapidly changing world.
Time.news Editor: That’s fascinating! What specifically prompted so many people to come together at this event?
Expert: The main reason behind the massive turnout was to support a prominent figure—Ridwan Kamil, who has displayed significant interest in the promotion and preservation of Batak culture. His initiatives resonate deeply with the community, and they see him as someone who can help elevate their cultural relevance in Indonesia and beyond. It’s a strong show of solidarity, not only for him but for their shared identity.
Time.news Editor: It sounds like unity in purpose played a crucial role. What do you think the wider impact of such a gathering is on the Batak community, both locally and nationally?
Expert: Absolutely. Events like this can invigorate local pride among Bataks and inspire younger generations to engage with their culture. The visibility of the Batak community can also grab the attention of policymakers and cultural organizations, leading to more significant support for cultural initiatives. On a national scale, it sends the message that Indonesia is a diverse nation, with various ethnic groups that deserve recognition and respect.
Time.news Editor: Speaking of representation, how can the stories and cultural practices of the Batak people be better integrated into Indonesia’s broader narrative?
Expert: That’s a great point. Media representation is key; for instance, promoting Batak art, music, and traditions through national broadcasts can help raise awareness. Education systems should also include diverse cultural studies that showcase Indonesia’s rich tapestry. Furthermore, collaborations between artists from different regions can foster cultural exchanges that enrich the national narrative.
Time.news Editor: It sounds like there are many pathways to enhance the Batak community’s visibility and influence. What challenges do you see in preserving their culture in contemporary society?
Expert: One major challenge is globalization, which can dilute unique cultural practices. Younger generations may be more influenced by global trends than by their own heritage. There’s also the issue of economic pressures, which can lead to the prioritization of modern pursuits over cultural conservation. It’s crucial for community leaders and policymakers to create programs that engage youth, ensuring that cultural practices evolve but do not disappear.
Time.news Editor: Absolutely, the balance between tradition and modernity is crucial. Lastly, what messages do you think the Batak community members hope to convey through gatherings like the one at the Jakarta International Velodrome?
Expert: They are expressing resilience and solidarity. It’s a reminder that, despite the challenges they face, their culture and identity remain vibrant and essential. They want to say, “We are here, and we matter.” Moreover, it’s an invitation for collaboration with others to foster a more inclusive and culturally rich Indonesia.
Time.news Editor: Thank you so much for your insights today! It’s heartening to see communities come together to celebrate their heritage. We look forward to witnessing continued growth and recognition for the Batak people.
Expert: Thank you for having me; it’s been a pleasure discussing this important topic!
