Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed today, Thursday, that the Hmeimim base will be used to deliver humanitarian aid to the Syrian people, noting that he did not meet Bashar al-Assad after he arrived in Moscow.
Putin said in his speech, followed by the (INA): “There are people who want to present what happened in Syria as a victory for Russia, and this is not true,” expressing ” we don’t know how much we need our base in Syria and what you can provide.”
He added, “We are considering the future of our base in Syria based on the current actions of the authorities,” noting that “Russia has evacuated 4,000 fighters from Iran to Tehran.”
He continued, “The Hmeimim base will be used to provide humanitarian aid to the Syrian people,” explaining, “I have not met Bashar al-Assad after he came to Moscow, but I plan to talk to him.”
