by time news

Andy Warhol’s portrait of Marilyn Monroe will be auctioned at Christie’s in May with a record opening $200 million, making it the most expensive piece of art of the 20th century sold at auction.

A painting called Shot Sage Blue Marilyn goes under the hammer – Warhol has several paintings with a cult American actress.

The canvas was painted two years after Monroe’s death – in 1964.

All proceeds will be used to finance a charitable foundation that helps children.
