Today marks the 28th day since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began on February 24. Meanwhile, the United States and Germany have said that Ukrainian forces are fighting hard to retake lost territory from Russian forces.
It has been reported that the national flag of Ukraine has been hoisted again in the suburbs of Mahariv, west of the Ukrainian capital Kiev. However, Russian forces have been carrying out heavy bombardment of the southern Ukrainian port city of Mariupol.

. A quarter of the population of Mariupol, or about 100,000 people, is still trapped in “inhumane conditions,” according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selensky.

Selensky said the humanitarian route in Mariupol had also been captured by Russian forces and that Ukrainian emergency workers and bus drivers had been taken prisoner.
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov told CNN International that Russia could use nuclear weapons “if its existence is endangered.”
The U.S. Defense Department has condemned Russia’s comments on nuclear weapons.
