The union was formed for the first time at Amazon in the United States. This right was acquired at the initiative of a dismissed employee.
Amazon, the world’s largest company, employs more than 8,000 people at its New York coupon. Various complaints were raised against Amazon for abrupt dismissal and non-payment of due pay. Following this, the employees came together and tried to form a union. The key player was Christian Smalls, a former employee of Amazon. He was fired in 2020 for campaigning for a lack of security at work during the Corona outbreak.
As a result of the continuous efforts of Christian and Amazon employees, a referendum was held and the union is currently being formed on Amazon. Fifty-five percent voted in favor of the union. The formation of a union in a business service provider is seen as a huge success.
Dissatisfied, however, Amazon said it wanted to be in direct contact with workers. Workers are celebrating this as the first victory for their rights struggle.
