Volkswagen plants in Russia will remain idle until summer

by time news

Volkswagen Group Rus plants in Kaluga and Nizhny Novgorod may resume work in June-July 2022, two sources familiar with the plans of the German company told Vedomosti. Production on them was stopped on March 3 due to a special Russian military operation in Ukraine and the ensuing problems with the supply of components. A spokesperson for the group declined to comment.

According to one of the interlocutors of Vedomosti, so far the employees of Volkswagen Group Rus have been officially announced only about idle time until May 12. But, according to confirmed forecasts, it will last until July, inclusive, due to the fact that the supply of some components is stuck on the border with Poland, the source says. Since transit through Ukrainian territory is now impossible, and Poland does not let the cargo through, the issue of delivery of components to Istanbul and further through Georgia to Russia is being considered, he explained. The company’s management hopes that by mid-May it will be possible to resolve this issue, the source adds.
