The economic crisis has led to a sharp rise in the price of essential commodities, including shortages of cooking gas, petrol and diesel. It is also said that power outages last for about 10 hours a day due to power shortages. The people are engaged in struggles against the government as the crisis situation is increasing day by day.

Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan has urged those in positions of power to put aside their race, religion and party affiliation and work together to overcome the situation. He further added that

“There are many reasons for this crisis. Together they have contributed to this. One day such a situation did not happen. The plague, the loss of jobs. Not only the increase in petrol and diesel prices but also the administrative fraud, but at the same time the administration alone cannot be blamed for the fraud.
